DEMOGRAPHICS
Age
Families living on Lake Burien fall into two general age groups: Those where the parents are between 31 and 59. and those where the offspring are between 31 and 59.
Income Income brackets per household- while not a subject for general discussion- is believed to average between 40 -50 thousand except in those instances where the husband also works, in which case it would be somewhat greater. Residents can be classified as · old money". ‘new money" or "no money The old money group are so called because they seldom spend any. They bought their homes when prices were low and generally lead quiet lives and don’t get around much. For this reason they are not exposed to the enticements of the marketplace; some of them have only 1 or two credit cards and similarly few cars.
The new money and no money categories are separated by an indistinct line. When mortgage and tax payments come due. the New’s can abruptly become No’s for a period of time. then gradually stagger back to their former status. The no-money’s are a semi-permanent clans (split oft from the New’s), whose children are now going to college or are into orthodenture -(a combination being considered as terminal).
Occupation While most upwardly-mobile journeyman plumbers. auto mechanic; etc. have moved to the Eastside. Lake Burien has managed to retain a core group of competent employed persons. If we can again attract a few individuals of certain select disciplines we might again become the fully-integrated feudal entity that the rest of Burien thinks we are. A study is needed to inventory the skills of our residents. Let’s identify the capabilities of the occupation -unknowns in our midst.
